Steven Manolis(b. 1948) paints in watercolor and acrylic, concentrating on abstract expressionism with an emphasis on color and the creation of pleasing visual dimensions. “I love beauty, I love form, I love symmetry,” he writes. “Seeing color and form and proportion is really my entire life. I paint with color and I try to do it in a pleasing, beautiful way. The subject matter of color and beauty … is the way I see the world.”

Manolis has been a private art student of the renowned painter Wolf Kahn for nearly twenty years. He maintains a studio and gallery in Miami, Florida. Highly involved in the field of visual arts, Manolis was past Chairman of the Advisory Board of the National Academy of Design as well as a Trustee of the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont, which conducts the nation’s largest Artist Residency Program.

A major solo exhibition of the acrylic and watercolor paintings of J. Steven Manolis will be presented in the Evansville Museum’s Old Gallery and Eykamp Pavilion September 30 – November 25, 2018. The exhibition is made possible through the generous gift of John D. and Stephanie Engelbrecht.
