Event Details

The Evansville Museum Gift Shop will host Rena Brouwer & Patrica Rhoden on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 6:00–8:00 PM. First Thursdays give an opportunity for the public to meet the artist and find out about his or her inspiration and art techniques. First Thursdays are free and open to the public. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available.

In conjunction with Art In Bloom, the Museum Gift Shop will exhibit beautiful floral paintings by Indiana artists, Patricia Rhoden and Rena Brouwer. Both of these artists’ works can be classified as Impressionism and Abstraction, but are so very different in their painting styles and materials. Patricia Rhoden has created impasto painted floral images with oil paint and Rena Brouwer has used alcohol ink or watercolors. While their artwork is representational and vibrantly colored, each style diverges. Rhoden’s impasto application creates heavy ridges by her brush strokes that suggest movement and have a tactile quality. With washes and light brush strokes, Brouwer’s paintings have a weightless feeling to them. Brouwer’s images seem ethereal and are sometimes floating in the picture frame while Rhoden’s images are anchored to ground as depicted in the landscape. The exhibition will be colorful and stunning with the artists’ work intermingled for compare and contrast.
