Evansville, IN, August 5, 2009: Of the 2009 Mayor’s Arts Awards, Deaconess Health System is to be honored by the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana with the Corporate Arts Award in a ceremony on September 3, 2009 at the Center in downtown Evansville, Indiana. Deaconess Health System is being recognized for its commendable support of the arts, artists and arts organizations within the southwestern Indiana region.
Deaconess Health System has provided funding for arts organizations and educational programming for many of the organizations around the Evansville area. Of those, the Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science has recently received a generous gift toward the Reaching for the Stars Capital Campaign to provide funding for an addition and renovation.
Leadership in supporting regional artists is apparent in the extensive art collections that Deaconess Health Systems has through out its many facilities around the region. With the services provided by the Begley Art Source, various commissioned artwork now adds inspiration and colors a soothing environment for the multitude of Deaconess’ health care and treatment centers.
For the 2006 Nominations for Leadership Evansville, Deaconess Gateway Hospital was nominated in the Arts Category. In that nomination, Jill Trautvetter wrote: “Deaconess Gateway Hospital used local artists to enhance the main visitor area of the hospital. The artwork brought a museum-quality atmosphere to the “Main Street” area and gave a peaceful, warming place for families and patients to enjoy during their stay.”
In the Gateway Hospital facility, the Begley Art Source assisted Deaconess in acquiring a site-specific hand-blown glass installation, Splash, by Brook Forrest White and most recently, Water Lily, a hand-carved table by Amy Musia designed especially for the central lobby.
Deaconess Health System deserves this Corporate Arts Award for its commendable support for the arts.
