Museum Highlights Tour (All ages)
The Evansville Museum is a general museum focusing on art, history and science. The Museum Highlights Tour gives students and other visitors a quick look at each of these three major areas. The Highlights Tour may be customized to fit your group’s age, interests and learning objectives.
EMTRAC – Evansville Museum Transportation Center (All ages)
Discover the history of transportation in Evansville! Students learn about early river and rail travel and the development of street transportation and aviation in Evansville. Highlights include a model railroad vignette and the Evansville Museum train, a real beauty comprised of a 1926 steam engine, 1908 club car and circa 1900 caboose. This 45-minute tour includes the entire Museum Transportation Center and train. Note: The train is not handicap-accessible. If this is a concern, please contact the Museum to discuss options for your group.
First Look (Grades Pre-K – 1)
Join Gabby the puppet on a fun Museum introduction tour that gives young students their first look at fine arts, history displays and exhibits featuring science and Mystery at the Museum (Aligned to Indiana State: the Nature of Science Process Standards for Grades 3 – 5)
In this hands-on workshop, students will use the scientific method to discover the culprit behind the mystery of the missing cheese doodles! Students will analyze ink samples and handwriting, study fingerprints and more in this engaging and silly program.
Native American ARTifacts (Aligned to Indiana State Standards for 5th Grade)
Students learn about North and Meso-American cultures in this program through examples of their art and by exploring the Museum’s Humankind Gallery. Critical thinking helps participants students relate works of art to the characteristics of each culture.
Unlocking the Secrets of Ancient Egypt (Grades 4 − 7)
This program, designed for grades 4 and up, gives students a first-hand look at one of the greatest wonders of the world: mummification. Many cultures practiced mummification besides the Egyptians, including the Aztecs, Incas, Chinese and Japanese. Students will explore the myths and truths about ancient Egyptian culture and witness the mummification of EMASHOTEP, an ancient Egyptian Royal.
